Here is an update on how the ministry is progressing.
Cultivating Tools
I have joined a School of Spiritual Direction with an organization called The Leadership Institute. This is a two year cohort program that trains people in the art of spiritual direction, simply defined as "one-to-one conversation in which one person helps another reflect on and deepen his or her connection with God." Click to learn more about this program.
I attended the first retreat in May and really enjoyed my fellow students and the leaders. Part of this program is to have your own spiritual director. I am meeting monthly with David, a retired lay person in Texas.
From Andi Ramsey
I asked Andi Ramsey to give her thoughts about Leavened Lives as a board member. Read the full post here.
Even the most devout Christians struggle to experience God working in and through them while at their jobs. We may pray fervently about which job to take, but once that decision is made and we begin the work, we go back to checking our faith at the door from 8am to 6pm. That is not God's desire for our lives and we need help to grow in this area.
Blog Excerpts
Certainty and Biblical Truth
What do we do with a desire for certainty about Biblical truth when two well-respected evangelical scholars have polar opposite views on what a book in the Bible is teaching? How might a lack of certainty serve God's purposes in developing a people who glorify Him?
Certainty and the Church
I think our quest for certainty becomes problematic when it mixes with our flesh. "I want to be right" can be an expression of a love for the truth held with humility. Or it can be an expression of our ego, making us close-minded and viewing people who see things differently as a threat.
Hebrews 11 "By Faith"
Chapter 11 is about what it means to live by faith, and what it looks like. I believe this message is deeply relevant for our experience in wanting to follow Jesus in our work lives.
