Newsletter March 2023
Here is an update on how the ministry is progressing.
Good Soil
I have been impressed with the idea that the integration of faith and work can be viewed in light of Jesus' parable of the sower. The theology of work resources are the seeds, and growth will depend a great deal on the soil in which they are planted. Currently I am working on two strategies.
1. Intensive Discipleship
A one-on-one engagement over a period of four months that will focus on people and their work lives with the goal of enhancing their experience of God in their work. There is more about this on the website here.
2. Gathering Together
I would like to set up a monthly gathering for people to be encouraged in their pursuit of integrating their faith into their work life. It would consist of one or two prepared testimonies followed by small group discussion. I am currently in conversation with several different church, ministry, and lay leaders about this idea. Please pray for partners in this endeavor.
Blog Excerpts
"Dramatic experiences of God are too rare, too much on the margins of our work lives, to provide daily communion with the God who is there. We have to commune with God who is present in subtle ways in our work."
"The compartmentalization of faith and work presents two problems. First, we are not paying enough attention to how God might be at work shaping us through the circumstances we face at work. And two, we are not paying enough attention to how we are being conformed to the world."
"Everyone needs to develop their own system of spiritual disciplines at work that serve to remind themselves to bring God into their day."
Fundraising
Thanks to generous end-of-year giving, Leavened Lives finished the first year with a significant surplus. Monthly donations are currently at $3,500. If you would like to partner with me in this ministry, you can contribute here.
