Group Guide: Sharing Voice Content the Right Way
To make this project work, sharing needs to fit into your busy life. A major stumbling block to consistency is the pressure to create 'polished' content—none of us have the time or space for formal composition during the work week. Instead, think in terms of raw, real-time communication. If a thought pops into your head, don't wait to type it out later. The quickest way to capture it is to drop a voice note right then and there. Here is how to do that in the best way for our project.
To keep our group running smoothly, please do not use Threema's built-in voice mail/audio message feature (the microphone icon next to the text box).
Why standard voice messages cause issues:
- Heavy Storage Load: Voice mail files are incredibly data-heavy. Because Threema stores everything locally on our phones instead of a central cloud, sending audio clips will quickly fill up everyone's phone storage.
- Blocks AI Analysis: Standard voice memos cannot be easily processed or summarized by AI analysis tools, making it very difficult to track key notes and project data.
The Solution: Use "Talk-to-Text" Instead!
Instead of recording an audio file, please use your phone's built-in keyboard microphone to talk, which instantly converts your voice into standard, readable text.
To make this seamless, follow the quick steps below to set up Auto-Punctuation so your phone automatically adds commas and periods as you speak.
An added benefit is that this creates a draft. Because it is standard text, your words will stay safely in your chat box if you get interrupted. You can lock your phone, step away, and return to edit or send it whenever you are ready.
How to Set Up Auto-Punctuation
For iPhone Users
- 1. Open your iPhone Settings app.
- 2. Go to General > Keyboard.
- 3. Scroll down to the Dictation section and turn ON Auto-Punctuation.
- 4. To Use It in Threema: Tap the text box to open your keyboard, tap the Microphone icon in the bottom right corner of the keyboard, and start speaking.
For Android Users (Gboard)
- 1. Open any chat in Threema and tap the text box to display your keyboard.
- 2. Tap the Settings (Gear) icon at the top bar of your keyboard.
- 3. Tap Voice typing.
- 4. Turn ON Auto-punctuation.
